9:20 – 10:00 - Supporting Cross-Curricular Literacy:  Applying the Edu Gains Strategy Implementation Continuum - Noel Lim

10:00 – 12:00 - Media Literacy Education, Neil Anderson
This presentation will provide a curricular context for the media strand in grades 7 – 12, with a discussion of the unique challenges in 7/8 and 9-12.  It will also suggest a variety of practical examples in which media study can be used to enhance literature study. Finally, a list of both free and commercial resources will be referenced.

1:00 – 2:30 - Slam Poetry Workshop, David Silverberg
Toronto Poetry Slam (TPS) poets are well-accustomed to leading workshops with educators and students of all ages. Workshops begin with breathing and elocution exercises, followed by enjoyable spoken-word games to encourage individuals to speak freely and loosen their inhibitions. Participants will learn to write poems on the spot that meaningfully relate to their lives.
